Localisation : Rueil-Malmaison

Axens Presentation :

Axens Group provides a complete range of solutions for the conversion of oil and biomass to cleaner fuels, the production and purification of major petrochemical intermediates, the chemical recycling of plastics, all natural gas treatment and conversion options along with water treatment and carbon capture. The offer includes technologies, equipment, furnaces, modular units, catalysts, adsorbents and related services. Axens is also specialized in Carbon Capture. Axens is ideally positioned to cover the entire value chain, from feasibility study to unit start-up and follow-up throughout the entire unit life cycle. This unique position ensures the highest level of performance with a reduced environmental footprint. Axens global offer is based on highly trained human resources, modern production facilities and an extended global network for industrial, technical supports & commercial services.

Axens combines the friendliness of a company on a human scale and the influence of a multinational environment whose customers are spread over more than 85 countries.

Axens is an IFP Group company.

As a Data Scientist within our Digital Factory, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and deploying advanced Machine Learning and hybrid models based on real-time industrial process data to optimize operational performance and support predictive maintenance. You will also lead the implementation of Large Language Model (LLM) engines to extract and synthesize relevant information from our extensive documentary databases. Your work will directly contribute to enhancing process efficiency, reliability, and data-driven decision-making across our operations

Main Responsibilities:

  • Develop & Operationalize Predictive Models: Build, validate, and deploy machine learning models (e.g., anomaly detection, predictive maintenance) using real-time sensor data and industrial process metrics to drive operational efficiency and reduce downtime.
  • Design Hybrid AI Solutions: Integrate physics-based simulations with data-driven ML approaches to create hybrid models that improve accuracy and interpretability for complex industrial systems (e.g., reservoir modeling, equipment health monitoring).
  • Implement LLM-Powered Knowledge Systems: Architect and fine-tune large language models to automate extraction of actionable insights from structured documents and enable natural language querying of enterprise databases.

In your role as Data Scientist, you will join an innovative, friendly and dynamic team of Process Engineers, DevOps and Data Engineers, all working in agile mode.

Missions :

Your main missions will be as follows:

  • Collaborate with the Process Data Analysis team in developing statistical models for optimizing unit performance, manufacturing processes, or other company-related issues.
  • Utilize and interpret customer data (internal/external) by building behavioral statistical models.
  • Train language processing models for classification, text generation, and optimize the performance of these models.
  • Adapt existing architectures (LLMs) to the specific needs of the company.
  • Extract structured information from unstructured data (documents, transcripts, social networks).
  • Deploy models in production via APIs or microservices.
  • Train/fine-tune language models.
  • Monitor new technologies and software solutions in data science.

Knowledge and Required Level :

  • You have a degree from a School of Engineering, ideally with a focus on process engineering, and a Master's specialization in Data Science.
  • You have an excellent ability to program in Python as well as a good knowledge of the libraries associated with Machine Learning and Deep Learning,
  • Knowledge of statistical modeling is a plus,
  • Basic knowledge of process engineering is a plus to give meaning to the data analyzes you perform,
  • A first experience in an industrial environment required,
  • A good level of oral English given the composition of the current team.

Associated Skills :

  • Dynamism, curiosity and openness to the world, showing a real interest in working in an international environment,
  • Ability to work in a team and in an agile method,
  • Strength of proposal for problem solving and ease with field/operational issues.
  • Autonomy and initiative,
  • Creative and innovative mindset necessary to keep up with a rapidly evolving field: Your creativity will keep us ahead of the curve
  • You have a real ability to communicate analytical results and explain technical concepts in simple terms to people with different backgrounds, professions and responsibilities
