About The Role

We’re looking for a senior Engineering Manager with a real entrepreneurial mindset. Someone who doesn’t just manage, but builds, challenges, and brings clarity to the team and stakeholders.

You’ll lead two teams of senior engineers, with a strong focus on impact, quality, and scalability.

Your job is to bridge business goals and technical execution by helping your team understand not just what to build, but why it matters. You’ll empower them to make smart decisions, work with autonomy, and ship increments of value every day.

You’ll partner with Product and Design to define roadmaps, challenge ideas early, and make sure your team is involved in every key decision.

You’ll also take an active role in hiring and onboarding, and help build a team culture where engineers feel trusted, supported, and proud of what they create.

Key Responsibilities

  • Align your team on what matters most, focus on initiatives with real business and customer impact.
  • Set clear goals and drive execution with high standards and accountability
  • Communicate with clarity, share context, raise issues early, and celebrate wins
  • Connect business and tech to help engineers understand the purpose and impact of their work.
  • Make smart, fast decisions, even in complex or ambiguous situations
  • Hire and grow great engineers through coaching, feedback, and development opportunities.
  • Structure the team for success, with clear roles and healthy ownership
  • Raise the bar on engineering quality through ADR’s, design reviews, documentation, and delivery
  • Collaborate across teams (product, business) to break silos and deliver expectations.
  • Foster a strong team culture built on trust, inclusion, and psychological safety

About You

You’ve been in the trenches, you’ve written code, shipped features, and fixed the prod in urgent times. You’ve learned that quality isn’t optional when we scale a product and you bring that awareness to every decision you make today as an Engineering Manager. You know how to navigate technical architecture conversations with clarity and confidence but without falling into micromanagement.

You’re comfortable leading meetings with clients and you know how to adapt your level of communication, switching easily between business and technical. You know how to lead conversations that build trust, align stakeholders, and drive decisions. Whether you’re explaining product trade-offs, exploring integration options, or managing expectations, you bring clarity, structure, and focus to every discussion.

You operate confidently across both strategy and execution, stepping in when it counts and stepping back to let others lead when it empowers the team. You offer feedback with clarity and empathy, receive it with humility, and always keep your focus on long-term impact.

At sunday, developers pair regularly and much of our discussion happens on Gather. You need to be comfortable switching between async and live communication and know when to use each to keep things moving fast.
