Job Title: Nuclear Physics Assistant – Monte Carlo Simulation (Oil & Gas Logging Tools)
Location: Pau, France

Overview:
We are supporting a major global operator in the energy sector to find a Nuclear Physics Assistant with expertise in Monte Carlo modelling techniques. This role is a unique opportunity to contribute to high-impact R&D projects focused on well logging technology for subsurface evaluation in cased wells.
You’ll be working within a cutting-edge research environment, contributing to the design, simulation, and analysis of nuclear probe measurements using tools such as MCNP and GEANT4. The focus is on advancing digital logging workflows and enhancing the interpretation of complex subsurface data.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop Monte Carlo models using MCNP and GEANT4 for nuclear probes in open and cased well environments
- Run simulations to generate statistically robust results
- Analyse output data, create importance maps, and develop tool sensitivity functions
- Integrate simulation outputs with existing logging forward modelling software
- Adapt workflows to various measurement configurations, including multi-detector systems and different energy acquisition modes
- Work with logging tools such as carbon/oxygen ratio, inelastic/capture ratio, litho-density, photoelectric factor, and natural gamma radiation
- Deliver complete models, simulation outputs, and developed algorithms
Requirements:
- Proven experience in nuclear physics and radiation transport modelling
- Hands-on expertise with MCNP and GEANT4 simulation tools
- Proficient in data analysis and algorithm development using Python
- Comfortable working with synthetic and real measurement data
- Strong communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative R&D setting
- Fluent in English
