SUMMARY OF THE ASSIGNED DUTIES, INCLUDING GOALS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE POST
Under the supervision and guidance of the Coordinator Firearms in the Firearms Unit in the Forensics and Police Data Management Sub-Directorate (FPDM) in the Operational Support and Analysis Directorate (OSA), the post holder is responsible for promoting the INTERPOL Firearms Programme Policing Capabilities, INTERPOL Illicit Arms Records Management and tracing Systems (iARMS), INTERPOL Ballistic Information Network (IBIN) and INTERPOL Firearms Reference Table (IFRT) and providing investigative support to firearms related crime investigations.
Firearms Programme projects aim at enhancing law enforcement agencies capabilities to combating the illicit proliferation of SALW (Small Arms and Light Weapons). The incumbent will promote INTERPOL Policing Capabilities, and also be responsible for developing and delivering capacity building and training programs for SALW control in Member States. This will include preparing training materials and conducting training for the purposes of combating illicit arms proliferation and firearms trafficking, use of INTERPOL Policing Capabilities, combating terrorism and enhancing security in Member States.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ACTIVITIES

- Act as a firearms and ballistic contact within Firearms Unit and projects.
- Liaise with military and law enforcement personnel within the Member States to identify entities responsible for the investigation of suspected firearms traffickers and assist law enforcement units with adherence to the INTERPOL Firearms Recovery Protocol or similar national protocols for the investigation and examination of firearms-related recovered evidence to further the prevention of crime.
- Promote Firearms Programme Policing Capabilities, iARMS, IBIN and IFRT to Members States and other stakeholders.
- Perform the necessary iARMS queries (and traces when applicable) on all recovered firearms and work with national entities to populate the database with each country’s registry of lost, stolen and suspected trafficked firearms.
- Enhance local capacity by providing train-the-trainer sessions on firearms for national firearms investigation units.
- Organize the implementation of regional operations against firearms trafficking.
- Perform all other duties required by the Coordinator Firearms.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATION REQUIRED:
- A minimum of three-to-four years’ education at a University or other specialized higher education establishment.
- At least 3 years of experience in firearms-related investigations or in the prevention of firearms trafficking. Ten years’ experience in the area is required if the post holder does not have the required level of education.
- Proven experience in a law enforcement agency or international organization or related forensic field.
- Experience in working in an international organization would be an asset.
- Excellent command of English is required; proficiency in a second official working language of the Organization (French, Spanish or Arabic) would be an asset and may be required in conjunction with the linguistic capacities in the unit or the framework of a given project.
- Strong communication skills, both in written and oral form (public speaking and delivery of presentations).
- Experience in working with computers including knowledge of oral presentations software, business intelligence and word processing software.
- Personal and professional maturity.

'Officials of the Organization shall not normally be retained in service beyond the age of 65 years. The Secretary General may, in exceptional cases and in the interests of the Organization, extend this age limit, in which case he shall inform the official concerned sufficiently in advance.'
Given this Regulation and in case candidates reach the age of 65 during the potential duration of the appointment, should they be selected for the position and the process proceed to appointment, the employment period may be affected by this regulatory limit and may therefore not extend for the full standard contract duration as published in the vacancy notice.
