Description of the Team/Project

The Device Physics team works on the development and optimisation of quantum dot (QD)-based spin qubits, focusing on the physical implementation of quantum operations and their impact on fault-tolerant quantum computing.

We are looking for a motivated intern to investigate the noise and error mechanisms associated with Optical Spin Rotation Pulses (OSRPs). The internship will involve developing physical models and numerical simulations to translate device-level errors into effective error channels that can be used in quantum error-correction (QEC) simulations.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in Device Physics group meetings and meet regularly with supervisors.

  • Develop an understanding of existing methods for simulating Optical Spin Rotation Pulses (OSRPs) and analytical error analysis techniques.

  • Contribute to the development of physical models describing OSRP implementation and assess the physical implications of simplifying assumptions.

  • Develop numerical simulations and analytical descriptions of error channels generated by the selected physical models.

  • Combine derived errors with existing perturbative descriptions of single-qubit gates to analyse their impact on resulting error channels.

  • Investigate the impact of modelled OSRPs on the optical properties of quantum dots and explore their potential use in pulse optimisation.

  • Study temporal correlations and non-Markovian effects arising from repeated OSRPs.

  • Incorporate derived OSRP error channels into quantum error-correction simulations and evaluate their impact on logical error rates.
